After spending some quality time with his friends and family in Philadelphia he set out on a journey of personal discovery through South East Asia, Nepal and India where he spent most of his time volunteering, riding an old Royal Enfield motorcycle, and studying Buddhism.
While in the far east Nate got a job offer to come back and run a day charter boat and a kids sailing camp in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Nate moved to New York in 2013 and hit the ground running. Over the following few years he worked on all kinds of vessels plying the waters of New York Harbor while still traveling in the off season and taking deliveries and sailing gigs all over the world. In 2016 Nate decided to go back to school to study environmental science at CUNY and to start his own sailing charter business. Thus began the True Sailing Era.
about nate
He had been raised on his fathers stories of adventure and misadventure on the boat that Nate’s parents lived on prior to settling down and starting a family. The nautical seeds were effectively sewed. After high school, Nate saved up his money doing tree work in his home state of Pennsylvania and enrolled in the Chapman School of Seamanship where he gained the practical and theoretical knowledge required to begin working on boats.
In 2007, twenty year old Nate moved to the world renowned sailing hub of Newport, Rhode Island and began working on the two time America’s Cup winning 12 meter “Intrepid”. Between the busy charter and racing schedules, Nate honed his skills and also met some sailing legends such as Olin Stevens, Ted Turner and Joey Waits. At the end of the summer he landed a first mate’s position on a Little Harbor 70 and set sail for the Caribbean. Nate proceeded to cruise through the superyacht industry, sailing back and forth across the Atlantic, and working busy charter seasons on exceedingly large sailing yachts and even a stinkpot or two. After four years of constant travel and living aboard yachts as a full time crew, Nate decided to return to land.
